    Gotta say I wholeheartedly disagree. Not every single move in the set needs to be a callback and reference to previous games. Furthermore, you're not taking into account the added dev cost of making these 'summon' attacks. You are adding extra modelling, texturing, animation (not to mention processing power) to a game already strained by it's HUGE roster. You can't have that many additional models except in very limited cases like Bowser Jr or Bayonetta. The only one I'll take is adding a projectile to DK to switch him up a bit and make him less miserable to play against zoners. The coconut gun or barrells works to that effect. Diddy is fine as is.

      Yeah fair enough. If this was reality, there would need to be 5 extra models and animations made for 0.3 seconds of gameplay, which would obviously increase the cost of production. I understand why they do not do it, but hey this is a fantasy, I have infinite budget and infinite talent working for infinite time on my dumb ideas born out of a love for Donkey Kong Country. A projectile would be better for “actual balance” in a fighting game, but in my mind I don’t consider smash a true fighting game and so the love letter aspect to the original games is more important to me. While it is in reality a mixture of the two, this is a monkey fantasy. Fair enough, glad you enjoy him!

    The idea of redesigning DK in this video basically boils down to forcing as much references into his moveset as possible and replacing some references with other references without any thought about moveset synergy and cohesion. So he now he is supposed to summon the animal buddies in his Smash attacks? If you must have them, better include them as Assist Trophies instead. You also have to think about how well the moves work in tandem with each other, which is something that videos that pretend to redesign Mario fail to grasp. Mario's moveset as it is a perfect display of effectiveness and cohesion which is why his combo game is powerful. I disagree about DK's moveset being bad as it is. As an actual DK main, the guy plays as the fast bruiser he is supposed to be and the normals represent this very well. The change to his Up B would end up removing a powerful punish tool and homogenizing it with the rest of the cast; there are already plenty of characters who shoot themselves upwards with their Up Bs (Sonic, Megaman, Banjo, the Pits, etc.). Down B already represents a move from his games and is a great aerial approach tool and a decent way to spike opponents off stage. The barrel throw move is already included as his grab game which is one of the best ones. Yes, he doesn't throw barrels out of nowhere but the reference is there. Neutral B change is unnecessary considering his FS. The only change you could give or take is Side B which would aid in his recovery.

      I agree with some of your points but disagree with others. I agree that this moveset sucks and feels like references for the sake of references, but I do believe that DK needs a tune up in terms of moveset to be more in line with his portrayal in the Donkey Kong games. Here's my version of what his specials would be changed into. Neutral Special: Giant Punch Side Special: Spinning Kong (moved from Up Special) Up Special: Barrel Cannon Down Special: Barrel Toss (Hand Slap moved to Down Smash) Final Smash: Same, just with a different animation based on Returns and Tropical Freeze

      @@Horatio786 I wouldn't dislike that specially because it keeps Spinning Kong and improves his recovery, but I remain adamant on keeping Down B as it is. Move has decent utility as a spike off stage and on stage is a good approach tool with Wavebouncing that can lead into follow ups.

      I am not saying the movesets are “bad” or “unbalanced” the point of the videos are to show the “essence” of the character in their movesets, like how Sakurai tries to do with the more recent DLC characters. While it may not be set out to be the perfect rebalancing of the movesets and would change the hitboxes and playstyle drastically, that’s sort of why I want to do it for a party game, pay more homage to the series that the characters come from. Most of his move changes probably would change how effective he is in a match in some degrees, but I mean that’s not the point of the video. It’s to remove the original wireframe standard fighting game archetype from the moveset which is the original design and have more love to the mechanics of the Country games

      @@Horatio786 yeah don’t mind this. I try not to throw in references just because, would rather they somehow reference the original games mechanics in some way. While the spin is a useful move for combos and aerial options, just is a complete invention. But in fairness, things like Animal buddies and minecarts are better for smash attacks or Diddy movesets. So I don’t mind this moveset from a mechanic point at all. Just wanted more representation for the DKCR series

    Some characters in smash bros are kept simple for beginners I think, DK being the basic “heavy” character. Hence his animations are easy to understand without context. The next smash bros game will have more costumes in Costume Pack 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5. Each $11.99

      I agree. Obviously originally it was Wireframes with your standard quick, heavy and shoto characters which would be difficult to add in as I suppose the most popular characters need to be them to introduce new players, but I mean, I’m in charge of my fake imaginary redesigns. I hope not, but it is easy money. Would see it make bank

    Great vid! Man i really hope they redesign DK, his moveset is litteraly the same since 64... Love the idea of Cranky in smash. For diddy and dixie, do you have a limit on the number of respawn you can do? Maybe i missed something but if not you can just infinitly survive right?

      Yeah for sure, its one of those ones they clearly made before they had the character then they barely updated to not annoy fans, but I think its time. It is a problem that could happen, in theory you would have your partner KOd then you switch between them when they respawn, but the main body would be the shared damage percentage. Think Ice climbers where if Nana gets KOd, she can respawn at some point about 10 seconds later, but during that time the singular Diddy or Dixie is much more nerfed. Possibly something that could be tweaked though

      @@OrangeJuiceJaz The only reason DK 64 was made is because Rare knew that a 2.5 DKC on N64 wouldn't look impressive compared to the trilogy. I recommend Yooka-Laylee the Impossible Lair, and Kaze the Wild Masks, their based on DKC.

    Sovereign Bulblax would work better as a boss. You can use this as a video idea. Picture this; due to the obvious upscaling of the Pikmin series in Smash Bros, Sovereign Bulblax goes from a big fat mossy frog to a towering behemoth of mountainous proportions, maybe become the biggest boss (ironically) with an immense pool of HP. His attacks consist of a lick that does heavy damage, a close-range bite, a stunning roar, an in-place crushing and a giant leap that squashes you and burries you if you are underneath him. He can also dig underground to pop out from below and also shake, knocking off any attached pikmin or sticky objects and also summoning crumbugs and sparrowheads like in his boss battle in Hey! Pikmin. Finally, the gimmick of this boss is that his mossy and rocky back is completely immune to damage so attacking his face is the only option, but if you play as a character that summons bombs like the links you can trick him into eating your bombs when he does the lick and bite attacks, causing quite the damage. He could appear as a boss for Olimar/Alph's classic mode, and in World of Light as a surprise boss in the forests of the dark realm.

      I do love the idea and I am certainly thinking of something alongside a theoretical story mode for a next smash bros game for a video. Since a shared universe and visiting each world would be a fun way for fan characters to come together and gives a good reason to fight classic bosses, so when I get back from holiday I can start to write it!

      @@OrangeJuiceJaz Hey thanks! Tbh Smash bros sometimes underepresent series, with the bosses being the biggest examples. In Ultimate, only the Kirby, Mario, Castlevania and Zelda series have a representative boss fight. (Pokemon, Earthbound and Metroid used to but only in Brawl) Of course i ain't saying that every series needs a boss (like what are they supposed to do with Duck hunt and Wii Fit?) but still, a few more bosses would be amazing... P.D: Maybe when Sovereign Bulblax does the giant leap he can cause boulders to fall.

      Yeah they should for sure. Brittany and Charlie should be easy to add. I did rack my brain for a way to use all 3 captains like the game, but having 3 pikmin and 3 seperate people like ice climbers is far too confusing :(

    The game is simply astonishingly boring. Even enjoying Witcher 3 it has the same issues. CD Project games are barely games. They're glorified soap operas where you occasionally fight people before another several hours of talking.

    I see a lot of good ideas here, I think personally I'd swap out the hunter's neutral special to be the gun, with down special being the change stance input. And to replace blood vials, I'd attempt to emulate the rally mechanic in bloodborne.

    Sounds like a really good idea. I would just change the estus from healing a set amount to a certain percentage of damage , let's say you took 100% it heals like 20% of the damage or something like that so that you have to think it's more worth to use it at mid percents to get out of any harm or wait till higher percents to get more healing.

      Yeah that could work, at 500% damage, healing would be worthless, but making it a percentage almost adds a risk reward system of waiting until high damage to get the most out of your charges!

    Some extra stuff you didn’t mention to at least try and get some more partners in: Lackilester’s Cloud Nine ability could be Paper Mario’s shield, Bow and Vivian could be roll dodge and spot dodge respectively, Goombario and Goombella could be up and down throw to reference their headbonk move, Flurrie could maybe be back air where she uses her wind breath to push Paper Mario forward, Koops and Bombette could just randomly show up when you do Kooper’s and Bobbery’s moves, and for the Final Smash (instead of the Bros Move) it could instead be Olivia transforming into the different Vellumentals depending on what direction you input before activating the FS, so just pressing B would be Earth, Up+B would be Water, Left/Right+B would be Fire, and Down+B would be Ice

    Giving comments here: Rosalina: I would love the quasar final smash; especially if it's shown as Rosalina trying to stop it Luigi: Hm. I'm not sure how the carpet down smash or ceiling fan up smash would work, but I would like the luigi's mansion references in there so... My proposed solution is to use Burst for the up smash (luigi acts as a hitbox and sends both him and his opponent up for combos) while his down smash uses the stun ability both left and right in quick succession. I feel that would focus more on Luigi rather than random spawned in props. Piranha Plant: Mmm. No. Ptooie is one of Pirahna's ONLY saving graces right now and getting rid of it would be suicide for the character as a whole. Put the nippers in the Pummel or for the Down Smash, both rather generic moves right now; it'd probably be better. Peach: I like the idea here, but I feel like it's too... crammed in for the sake of being crammed in. I'd suggest replacing other moves with the new fighting moves (especially from Kung Fu and some innovated attacks from Ninja and Swordfighter) into her base kit. I'm OK with the neutral special in general though, especially with Toad being his own character, I suppose. Daisy: Surprised you didn't bring up more changes but a lot of people have already suggested that; however I do like the final smash. Bowser: I'm pretty on board with most of these. Assuming that Bowser's tail thing gives more lateral range and is the same speed, that'd be an even better out-of-shield option too. Bowser JR: Stance characters are finnicky and require more effort, but at least we don't need any new models so... maybe? Also how would Kirby work with that neutral special? I feel like the side special would be fairly weak... The change to Up special should probably already be like that. Yoshi's island references are fine, but the final smash being one doesn't work well because... that's not Bowser Jr. That's Baby Bowser, Bowser as a baby. Mario: Yes for the footstool. No to the Fludd change; rushdown Mario sounds nightmarish. I'd switch neutral and side special though. Yes to the Final Smash. Toad: So they're being used for Wonder representation? I personally would reserve that for Daisy, but ya know what? This works. Paper Mario: With Peach using more Mario RPG stuff, I feel it's redundant to have him use the items as well. Paper Mario, extended: Color Splash is my favorite Paper Mario game and I never played thousand year door lol so Imma make my OWN moveset hahaha Size: Slightly shorter than Mario Weight: Slightly heavier than GnWatch Speed: Bottom half of the roster on the ground, top half in air, top 25% walk speed, bottom 15% fall speed Playstyle: Balanced + Dynamic Gimmick 1: jumping on opponents deal damage. Crouching has him paper form into tube form. Basics: Jab: Punch punch kick FTilt: Hammer swing. Slower but nets knockouts well. UTilt: So you know those spiked helmets from Paper Mario Color Splash? Yeah. That. Also protects him from upwards attacks. DTilt: rolls forwards. Dash attack: Spin from PM64 Smash: Fsmash: Quake hammer; works like Dedede's but the shockwave is more pronounced Usmash: This is where I'd put Superguard. Think GnW's for comparison, including invincibility, except Mario jumps up too Dsmash: Spin smash/KO hammer Aerials: N: One of his stylish moves F: Hits forwards with the Trio Racquet raquet. U: Spins in place to make a tornado like in the Tornado Jump move D: Spin Jump (basically ground pound) B: Basically Dedede's. Grab: Normal grab. Pummel: uppercuts their chin and steals their coins. F-throw: Performs a move like Fire Drive. B-throw: Spins around and throws them with the momentum, unless... D-throw: Multibounce/hopslipper. Maybe even include the action command as an easter egg. U-throw: Throws confetti with them. Imma throw custom specials in too why not. N-special: Shell toss Jump on a shell that for some reason is not any of the partners. Goes forwards, follows gravity, too slow to be used for harassment but rather stage control, but very high knockback for something that slow. Can be reflected by being hit though will eventually break after too much damage. Has a cooldown of a little bit between uses, but only a couple seconds. Only one shell can exist at a time. Custom 1: Flashy Shell Actually does do more harassment stuff; flies faster and does more damage but doesn't last as long, falls much faster, and has reduced knockback. Same reflection properties but does not get destroyed; simply resets timer if that happens. Same cooldown rules. Custom 2: Shell Shield Extremely slow. Very big. Lasts a long time. Does basically zero damage but knocks people away slightly with set knockback. Cannot be reflected, but can still be broken but with much more damage required. Think of it as a wall. Much larger cooldown. Side special: Hammer throw/Hurlhammer Acts much more like the latter. Spin around with the hammer (no hitbox sorry) and holding for longer = more damage and range. Can't really be used for harassment but rather for locking down portions of the stage and forcing approaches, so another stage control tool. Custom 1: Paint Hammer Throw Hitting an opponent with this hammer (which comes out and flies slower) will coat them in paint. Paint increases damage received to whoever got it and applies a random effect. (Green gives a movement debuff, Red reduces traction and makes movement slippery, Yellow locks out Smash attacks, Blue locks out Special attacks, purple poisons, Orange resets charges and makes chargeable moves unable to, including smashes) Also leaves a paint spot on the floor that does similar. Custom 2: Chillhammer Throw: Throws a Chillhammer from the latter three series instead. Leaves a shockwave effect on the ground and freezes at higher percents. Up special: Ultraboots A combination of both ultraboots. Starts with the spring jump upwards (can be angled) goes about as high as Joker (with Arsene). Can be cancelled to do the dive move from PM64. Custom 1: Plane Spring jump goes less far but now you can glide with a tiny hitbox tip. Much beter for recovering than attacking. Custom 2: Super Jump No more dive move but increased kill power on the way up. Goes further, too, but less anglable. Down special + gimmick 2: Partner cards Pick 7 cards; there are 20 in total with 10 being default, and adding 5 per custom Oh, there they are. Build up star power by beating the heck out of your enemies and pull some cards with some familiar faces and effects from it. 7 cards per deck but you only get to see 4 at a time, and once a partner dies it's put back in the deck. Once you run out of cards, it reshuffles and you get to choose from them again. Down throw changes to you throwing the enemy backwards then the partner attacking. You can only have one active at a time. Using down special will allow you to use your partner's ability if applicible. Each have their own health (which i won't get into) OH, and also, these guys suck at recovering unless they can fly. 1. Goombella. Attacks with a headbonk which acts like a grab that you can hit enemies out of. Headbonks can also be used as a last ditch effort to get back on stage. 2. Kooper. Neutral special but also picks up items, and boomerangs. CANNOT be held out like Koops, who isn't here. 3. Thoreau. Basically a grab but it's longer ranged. Leads into the normal grab. 4. Lackilester. Throws spiky eggs at people. Spiked eggs can also be traps. Can fly. 5. Flurrie. Blows wind forwards. Very annoying. Can fly. 6. Bobbery. Acts like he normally does, but mario does throw him so he can potentially recover that way 7. Vivian. Brings mario into the shadows to avoid attacks. Can move out of the way left and right. 8. Watt. Charges forwards and stuns enemies. Can fly. 9. Barry. Creates a barrier around Mario. 10. Huey. Acts similarly to GnW's bucket, but pills a random paint color onto opponents. Can fly. Would also have the most HP out of the partners. Custom 1: Battle cards From M&L: Paper Jam 1. Pow UP: Raises power of you and your partners. 2. Spd UP: Raises speed of you and your partners. 3. Star UP: Raises amount of Star Points gained by clobbering people. 4. Damage to Star: Deals damage to yourself to gain Star Points. 5. Damage all: deals 10% to everyone Custom 2: Badge cards From PMTTYD. Last a limited amount of time. 1. Heart Finder: Enemies have chances to drop hearts when hit that heal you like items. 2. Last Stand: Damage and knockback reduced at high percent 3. Return postage: 25% of damage taken is also given to opponent; maxes at 10%. 4. Damage Dodge: Shield has more health. 5. Charge: Mario's (and only Mario's) next attack deals more damage. (not limited in time) Not gonna do aesthetics lol

      I do like the Luigi alterations for sure, it's a nice way to incorporate the moves more fluidly. Would perhaps have to change the Up Special to a whip special like many characters or another Mario type move? Piranha Plant would keep the Ptooie, but get rid of the down special, thats a mistake on my behalf! Daisy is an interesting one as I keep her as an echo fighter to keep the old moveset, but as a character on her own she would probably be better utilised for the sports games... but I have another character in mind for that ;) Bowser Jr would probably just default to the exploding Clown Car part of the Neutral Special for Kirby, it's a difficult thing organising Neutral specials for Kirby but should be a decent enough damage dealer. Also true that Baby Bowser isn't Bowser Jr per say, so I suppose you can't really use that lore wise to just smash the two characters together. "Crouching has him paper form into tube form." This is very cute I do like this touch "Dash attack: Spin from PM64" Just realised I had this in my notes but forgot to record the audio for it... I do like the ideas a lot for Paper Mario and I could 100% see them being used. The Down special is interesting as it uses all of the partners for abilities in some way which I do like. Would be tough to see from a UI perspective with the Multiple cards being drawn out. Perhaps a way to use this is almost sacrificing Neutral special where Down Special can swap out a partner to the 8 listed. However pressing Neutral Special can use the Partners ability, which adds so much flexibility to his moveset! I do like the previous Neutral Special anyway so incorporating that in as a Partner in some way perhaps? Maybe if a partner is "Defeated" they can't be swapped too for the rest of the battle, but maybe the Final smash can bring them all back as a bonus effect? Really love reading stuff like this!       ​@@OrangeJuiceJaz Luigi: EZ! Mario and Luigi Superstar Saga has him doing a lighting uppercut for one of his attacks, and he's known for using tornados in the sports series. Hell, even giving him his super jump from the Paper Mario series would likely be in character enough for the Weeg. Daisy: ... i think i can see where this is going Bowser Jr: A simple solution I feel is to just make more NSMB references and have Bowser Jr. commanding an armada. Or maybe a galaxy reference and use Megahammer to smash a location on the stage, so he can be just like his Pa? Paper Mario: Sacrificing the Neutral special was an idea I had too! Unfortunately if that happened, POYO. I was thinking about how to incorporate partners and other badge abilities as organically as possible. Personally, I feel like Paper Mario in Smash should be... Paper Mario focused more than anything. However, I didn't want to pass up the partners fully. Just having one partner for each special slot seemed too limiting with the amount of unique partners and abilities that PM's had over the years, so I tried to find a way to include more! The card systems from Paper Jam and Color Splash stuck out to me the most. Color Splash allows you to summon in partners, at a cost. Paper Jam's cards could be reused; but you had to keep up momentum in order to keep up your star power so you could continue to use them. I decided to sort of combine the two, with heavy emphasis on Paper Jam's interpretation. The main problem with the "defeated" thing, for me, is for the casuals. In a hectic environment with lots of items, your partners are going to die A LOT. Having the option to bring them back for a resource you can obtain instead of locking them off permanently seems fairer in this regard. I also tried introducing cards that do effects instead of spawn in a partner because of this system. You lose a meatshield/extra attack for different effects that can help you if you "play your cards" right. Also, AI isn't perfect and would probably make dum dum decisions and oof itself, so replenishing them would make them less annoying to play. Final Smash could honestly be a variety of things but... if I were to do anything a good one might be Delzelthin's idea (bringing in a LOT of Paper Mario characters and tsunami the stage with them) but if I were in charge? Empowered by the Smash Ball, Mario sees a curtain closes on the stage. Audience members pop up in front and start cheering as the curtains reopen revealing all seven Star Spirits+Twink, the Crystal Stars, and the Pure Hearts all circling above Paper Mario. Every single partner Paper Mario has ever worked with (all 64 partners, all ttyd partners, Peach, Bowser, Luigi, all pixils minus Tippi, Kersti, Huey, Olivia, Professor Toad, Kamek, Bowser Jr, and the ghost of Bobby; OChunks, Nastasia, Mimi, and Kammy are there too) are posing beside him as the artifacts start spinning faster and faster. Kersti is also summoning the Royal Stickers, which act as a reticle. The Star Spirits fire Peach Beam at the reticle the Royal Stickers are aiming at with the partners being blown away one by one as the beam begins growing larger as the Crystal Stars lend their power (with Supernova and Showstopper visuals starting to appear elsewhere) and once more as the Pure Hearts lend their power, fusing into the Purity Heart, which flies straight into the center of the massive beam that has now been formed. At this point, only Huey, Olivia, and the ghost/spirit characters are left on screen, but the ghost/spirit characters decide to dip before they get blown away. At the attack's conclusion, Huey flies in front of the beam as it begins to dwindle down and begins to absorb all that remains of the pure white beam as Olivia helps Paper Mario charge up his 1000-fold arms, turning herself into a giant hammer. Huey has successfully absorbed the rest of the beam before it got out of control but he's struggling to contain it all. Anyone caught in the beam are essentially frozen in time next to Huey as he panics. Finally, Paper Mario swings the giant Olivia at Huey's head, sealing the massive amounts of energy he absorbed finishing the final smash with Olivia flying off happily, opponents probably flying off-screen, and Huey flying off directly upwards from the force. Paper Mario is still left on screen as the crowd goes absolutely WILD. If someone was hit by it, Paper Mario waves to the crowd is granted many Star Power. If no one was hit by it, he shrugs instead gets considerably less Star Power. The curtains disappear, the crowd goes away and Paper Mario ends it with a thumbs up pose. that has a 40% chance of being interrupted by Huey falling on his head, dealing 5% of damage.       Given how much they have been put into the games, Captain Toad has his own game etc, I wouldn't be shocked, consistently ranked very high in the Polls and Ballots as well, next to Waluigi I do have a feeling that if they make another game they will have to trim the roster quite a bit and add a lot of echo fighters instead. Perhaps the new reveals will be other "franchises" that aren't in smash like "Resident Evil", "Dark Souls", "Crash Bandicoot", "Doom", "Professor Layton", "Rayman", "Spyro", "Halo", "Half-Life", "Tomb Raider", etc.

      I mean thats fair, I wish I liked them, would be more Paper Mario for me to enjoy. But Sticker star introducing no EXP or growth in a turn based RPG means battles are rendered completely meaningless. The only way to make that work would be Undertale focus on story through gameplay, which sticker star does not... you can forgive it as an experiment, but then Colour Splash confirmed either a complete lack of Game design knowledge or spiteful arrogance. Everyone says Origami King is quite good, but I never played it when it was confirmed that the battles don't give EXP or something and the battles are basically skippable item drains again, a real shame. In my first script I did have a few lines where I mention if I were to include them, I would have his Neutral B being applying a Sticker/Card to Paper Mario to apply a buff to an attack, Perhaps final smash would be to summon a few "Things" to attack the opponent. Other Ideas with using Colour or Origami pieces when successful attacks land to build up a meter for a special attack or something, but thinking about those games just kept making me sad. Also I keep hearing that the Bob-Omb character in Origami king is well liked and decently written? But it baffles me that they just look like a normal Bob-omb in design... really wish they had the quirky designs of the older games where they differentiated from the standard enemies... OH WELL. RANT OVER THANKS FOR WATCHING IM SORRY

    Mario's final smash should spawn in the steps and final jump onto the flag. When he slides down the flag, everyone on screen dies, just like the NES Mario games.

      An instant death is probably too overpowered. You could probably get away with dealing 100 or even 1000% to represent how many Points you would get from the enemies tbough. Remember Points? That was a weird time, not sure why they stuck around so long.

      How about fireworks shoot up and explode, dealing damage and launching enemies caught by the fireworks. Also, those in the pole should be sent up and then crash back down and to the side as Mario slides down

    I’ll never ever understand why they went through so many games spending so much time making the professor out to be a man or high moral character, supportive and helpful and under of children, and always doing right by “a lady” just to have him walk out on his daughter?!? No. If they wanted a young female lead they had Flora RIGHT THERE. I’ll never understand. I bought for Switch and ended up trying it on mobile as I replayed the first trilogy on my tablet but omg it is just not good. The puzzles. Dialogue and pacing is all bad. I do not enjoy it whatsoever. But once I played on my tablet I fully realized why I hated it on switch and 3ds so much. It was genuinely designed for mobile gameplay and mobile audience. Maybe some of the older fan base but they were relying on the series name to get a new audience in the mobile app game space. It’s a different type of gaming that I am used to and I have only seen some great series go down the drain because they went the mobile game route. Look what happened to cooking mama. The DS games were awesome. The mobile ones are like a gacha ADHD pink nightmare.

    As mediocre as this game is overall -- and very poorly executed -- I will defend Katrielle to my dying breath. She is a fantastic protagonist, who was severely hammered by the mediocre writing. Most of the "problems" that people have with Katrielle seem to boil down to outright misunderstanding of everything she does and says. Katriele is not "selfish", she clearly enjoys helping people--she goes out of her way to help most of the "culprits", for examples, even though she didn't need to. Katrielle shows numerous times that she's also very non-judgmental, and takes everyone and everything around her in her stride. For eample, in the bank case, she is the only one who acts entirely friendly towards Sloanes, while everyone else is intimated by him. Another example is in the Ratman case, when she is entirely unbothered about following after the thug-looking guy to interview him (and is proven correct on this) I don't want to pull the "if she wasn't female" card, but I do think that a lot of the hate stems from her being a female protagonist. People interpret her actions the wrong way because they're stacking them up against female protagonist cliches and assuming things about Katrielle's motivations. There's also people missing most of Katrielle's actual reasoning in the cases, because they literally take everything she does at face value. Okay, so a good example of this is in the first case when Katrielle suggests they stop investigating, and go over to Chancer Lane and go to the shops there. The game presents this on the surface as her not taking the case seriously. If you were actually paying attention, though, Hans had just stated a pretty obvious contradiction related to seeing that the Big Ben hand was missing from Chancer Lane so Katrielle was clearly following up on that (he says he noticed the hand was missing from where he lives on Chancer Lane. Ernest points out he couldn't see it himself, and Hans says something like, "because you were looking at the wrong clock face". Which makes no sense, because, you know, their agency is on Chancer Lane). This isn't to say that Katrielle doesn't sometimes just follow dumb luck--like when she randomly said a mouse must be related to Ratman and the mouse happened to lead her to a shop where Ratman left his costume. That kinda thing is pretty dumb. But IDK, honestly, people seem to just take everything Katrielle does at face value which I find odd, because she's clearly not a character you're supposed to read at face value. This applies both to her "deductions" and her general personality traits. Both seem completely misinterpreted by most people, because they just don't bother seeing them beyond surface level. Although, to be honest, I don't know how on earth anyone could come to the conclusion that Katrielle is not a good person. My complaint with her character if anything is actually that she's utterly flawless. Or, at least, that she's presented that way. She's considered smart, beautiful, kind, courageous, non-judgmental, yet also likably quirk, modest but not modest to the point of being unrealistic, and dignified, yet not too much so as to lack relatability. She's a bit of a Mary Sue, which is a problem, but to say she's "unlikable and an awful person" is just a really weirdly male-centric reading of her character. I don't like saying that, but it's impossible to interpret people viewing a girl like Katrielle as an "awful person" in a way that doesn't seem gendered in some way. It stinks of reverse/inverted "nice guy syndrome" (men viewing Katrielle as a female equivalent of a "nice guy" stereotype as some kinda weird projection). I really cannot interpret the "Katielle is a garbage human being" stuff any other way, because there's literally if anything TOO many instances in the game of Katrielle being ridiculously & unrealistically nice to people. She literally helps every single case culprit-even ones who barely knows--for no reason (I remember almost every case conclusion involving some form of Katrielle going "before I reveal the truth, I just have to go off for a minute & do something", then it being revealed a short while later that what she did was something that benefits the culprit's circumstances). It's to the point where it got actually frustrating how insanely lovely dovey the game was being about everyone. But that's more a problem with the writing of the cases themselves. I feel as though Katrielle is a really good character who got completely hampered by fairly middling cases & writing. In a more competent game Katrielle would really shine. A detective who is smarter than people think, who hides most of her reasoning behind a facade of "dumb luck". Honestly, I love Katrielle, I love the concept, the design, and her basic concept, but her potential was wasted.

    I wonder if party of the reason audience perception of difficulty and the blind playthrough charts don't match up is because of the potential risk of "beginner's traps", or obstacles that might catch you off guard or psych you out on a first playthrough but are not difficult to execute once you learn the gimmick. For example, with Mario World I think most of the jumps and enemies are rather easy to deal with - especially if you start cape spamming or use a blue yoshi - but there is a lot of variety in the game (puzzles, tech, enemy movement, etc) that are not always obvious to new players. Whereas the original Super Mario Bros is rather straightforward most of the time I think - give or take a repeating castle or three - but a fireflower will only get you so far if you start mistiming jumps. So you may get a situation where Mario World scores higher in difficulty, but it's still easier for new players to ultimately learn and clear. They just had to try and die more to learn it.

    Absolutely love the data and the graphs. Never really realized how much I disliked talking in the tutorial until I saw these. Btw, just a small tip, but the graphs 2:57 could be bar graphs, because I wasn't really sure how much time some of the games actually took. And I would REALLY love to see the graph at 6:19 as a stacked bar graph with absolute amount of time (so like 4:24, with absolute times, and all the different types of gameplay stacked on top of each other so they add up to the total time.) I am wondering if there is a game with a tutorial that is longer than the entire time spent talking in SS. Really good job. Subscribed.
